Business Booming

For a third year in a row, a record has been set for new business filings by Iowans.

According to an email Thursday from the secretary of state’s office, Iowa saw 23,649 new businesses.

That compares to 21,665 in 2017 and 20,300 in 2016, the information noted.

Previously, no year had ever seen the 20,000 mark broken, according to the information.

“This is terrific news for Iowa and the state of our economy,” Secretary Paul Pate is quoted in the information as saying. “Each of the past three years, more than 20,000 new businesses have launched in our state, and 2018 is by far our best year ever. This shows Iowans have more income that they are willing to invest and create jobs in our state.”
