South Winneshiek Hosts Runners

Soggy conditions were in store for cross country action as state-ranked ninth grader Jalyssa Blazek took first place with the women with a 19:50.46.

Blazek is ranked sixth in Class 1A, according to the Iowa Association of Track Coaches as posted at iowarunjumpthrow.com.

“…. I was very happy with how she ran her race,” said Turkey Valley coach Sarah Bakula by email Oct. 3.  “We decided before the race she was going to go out with Decorah and she accomplished that very well.  She came from behind in the last 250 meters and passed Decorah just before the finish.  To have 2 good races in 3 days is outstanding.  Jaylssa’s times are consistently getting faster which is what you want to see.  She continues to work hard at every practice and is very competitive at races.  She puts herself out there as a top contender at every race and does her best.  I look forward to the rest of the season to see what the outcome is.”
