Warriors Win 30 — 10

A 30-10 victory opened the season for South Winneshiek football Friday.

Junior Jaron Todd led the Warriors with 12 points with Levi Lukes, Zach Taylor and Noah Tieskoetter having six points each.

A 26-yard field goal in the first quarter had the Bulldogs looking at some hope.

“We had a slow start on offense in the first quarter,” said coach Jason Ohrt by email Saturday. “MFL did a nice job of controlling the clock at the start of the game. We started to make some plays in the second quarter to give us a lead going into the half. Coach Straube and our defense made some adjustments and limited MFL to only 15 yards rushing in the second half. We’ve had a lot of injuries and shuffling around on our offensive line so it was promising to see that group help put up over 200 yards rushing. We’ve gotten off to some slow starts the last few seasons so winning the first game with a very young football team is a nice way to start things off. We will only get better as the season progresses.”

According to Ohrt, South Winneshiek outpaced MFL MarMac in team yards by 284-252.
