Grant Breitsprecher

Grant Lyle Breitsprecher, 56, of Castalia, died Sunday, Feb. 13, 2022, at his home near Castalia. Grant was born July 12, 1965, to Gary and Marilyn (Russett) Breitsprecher in Postville. He graduated from South Winn High School in 1983. Grant was united in marriage Sept. 21, 2002 with Amy Lynn Egeland. God had a different plan, which didn’t allow them to have their own children; instead they were blessed with numerous “Rent a Children.” Grant was known to many as Mr. B or Hoss.

Grant held various jobs and then went driving over the road with Schneider National Carriers, team driving with Ron Monroe and solo driving in later years. After achieving his million miles and meeting and marrying the love of his life, Grant came off the road and went to IL Norplex Micarta as a Press Operator for 18-plus years. While at IL Norplex Micarta, Grant was able to travel to China and walk on the Great Wall.

Grant was a loving, kind, gentle man with the biggest heart. Grant was a cowboy. He loved to read, shoot guns and spend time with family and friends.

Recently, Grant had been on a journey as his health started to decline. Grant never once complained but endured many obstacles with Amy by his side constantly. Grant had a tracheostomy placed June 14, 2021, due to bilateral vocal cord paralysis. Until recently, Grant’s diagnosis was incomplete until the end of December when he was diagnosed with MSA (multiple system atrophy), which is rare.

Grant is survived by his devoted wife, Amy; his three brothers: Chad (Andrea), Wade (Gina) andClay (Michele); his in-laws: Doug and Mary Lou Egeland and a sister-in-law, Tami (Jeramy) Monroe, and many nieces and nephews and several aunts and uncles.

Grant was preceded in death by his parents: Gary and Marilyn; a sister, Joy; grandparents, Lyle and Mildred Breitsprecher and Daniel and Dorothy Russett and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Visitation was from 4 to 7 p.m. Feb. 17 at Ossian Lutheran Church in Ossian with a one-hour visitation before services at the church Feb. 18, which were set for 11 a.m with burial at Hillside Cemetery in Ossian and arrangements by Schmitz-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Ossian.
