Lawler Post 279 Awards Turkey Valley Flag Essay Winners

Lawler American Legion Post 279 members visited the Turkey Valley fifth grade class Feb. 27 with results of this year’s Flag Essay Contest.

The Lawler veterans group has been teaming up with teachers Leslie Raymond and Evie Milbrandt for a number of years now to help students gain appreciation for the flag and the service given by members of the United States military, both past and present.

Students had the option to participate in the contest or just write about flag history. This writing assignment gives each student the opportunity to share their words with a real audience. Students do research first and then are given specific criteria to follow.
