Michael Gunderson

Michael A. Gunderson, 47, of Kalona, formerly of Zumbrota, Minnesota, passed from this life on Saturday, May 6, 2023, at his home surrounded by family, following a courageous fight with cancer. The family will greet friends Friday, May 12, 2023, from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 6:30 p.m., at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona. The memorial service will be available via Livestream at the Beatty Peterseim Facebook and Youtube pages. A memorial fund has been established in Michael’s name to benefit his son, Grahm.

Michael Aaron Gunderson was born Nov. 22, 1975, in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, the son of Stephen and Candy (Reddy) Gunderson. He graduated from Muscatine High School and the University of Northern Iowa with a Bachelor’s of Science. He was united in marriage to Jenny Bohr in Playa del Carmen Oct. 22, 2004. Michael was a histotech with Sakura, serving as an area sales manager. He was a standing member of the National Society of Histotechnology since 1998, and a member of the Minnesota Society for Histologists. Michael enjoyed spending time with his family; riding his motorcycle; woodworking; golf; attending Iowa football games with his wife; traveling; playing cards and poker with friends and family and cooking.

Survivors include his wife Jenny and son Grahm of Kalona; two aunts: Diane “Nan” Gibson, of Arizona, and Diane (Eric) Schulz, of Dubuque; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Jim and Jeannie Bohr, of Protivin; two sisters-in-law: Jackie Bohr (Mike Plewacki) and Jodee (Brent) Beck, both of Cedar Rapids; niece Carley Beck of Cedar Rapids; and nephew Riley Beck of Chicago, Illinois, and a number of cousins and very close friends in Iowa and Minnesota.

Preceding Michael in death was his grandmother-in-law, Evelyn Pechota.
