Alan Joseph Heying
Alan Joseph Heying, 65, of Ossian, died Sunday, Feb. 13, at Ossian Senior Hospice in Ossian. Alan was an angel on earth and is now an angel in heaven. He was born April 28, 1956 to Paul and Patricia (Frommelt) Heying. Alan was educated at Abner-Hendrickson School and went on to work for Spectrum Industries, where he sorted cans. He lived many years at Opportunity Homes in Decorah, before being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and moving to Ossian Senior Hospice in 2015.
Alan loved. He loved baseball “Go Cubs,” Johnny Cash “his favorite man,” handkerchiefs, April Fools Day, the Waltons and his family and friends. He will be missed deeply by a community that loved him back. Alan was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Ossian and St. Benedict Catholic Church in Decorah.
Surviving Alan are his devoted mom, Pat; his siblings, Randy (Connie) Heying, Pam (Kim) Klocek, David Heying, Debra (Chris) Viney, Mike (Cindi) Heying and Cathy Heying and many nieces and nephews.
Alan was preceded in death by his father, Paul Heying; his grandparents and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visitation was set for 4 to 7 p.m. with a 7 p.m. Scripture Service Feb. 17 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Ossian and for one hour before Mass Feb. 18 with Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. with burial in the parish cemetery and Schmitz-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Ossian with arrangements.
