Joanne Rose Hageman

Joanne Rose (Kuhn) Hageman, 79, of Ossian, passed away Feb. 1, 2025, at Veteran’s Memorial Hospital in Waukon, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born May 31, 1945, to James and Alice (Riehle) Kuhn in Decorah. Jo grew up on a family farm by Spillville. Joanne graduated from South Winn High School in Calmar, Iowa with the class of 1963.

 Joanne was united in marriage with Earl Cecil Meyer, who passed away in November 1964. Joanne was united in marriage with Kenneth John Hageman Feb. 4, 1967. Throughout the years, Joanne sewed bridesmaid dresses and was an accomplished seamstress. She was part owner of a fabric store in Ossian. Joanne worked alongside Ken at his construction business for many years in Ossian, Iowa. Jo also was a childcare provider at the Ossian De Sales Day Care Center. 

“Jo”, as she was affectionately known, loved gardening, baking, canning, crafting, and crocheting. She valued time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren.

Surviving Joanne are her children; Earl S. (Lourene) Meyer, of Ossian, and Carla Sue (Tony) Helmkamp, of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren: Brianna Sue Harris, Matthew Kenneth Helmkamp, Noah William Harris and Mitchel Donald Helmkamp; and her siblings: Alice Barloon, Richard (Becky) Kuhn and Rita (Roger) Fjelstul, numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding Joanne in death were her husbands: Earl Cecil Meyer and Kenneth John Hageman; parents: James and Alice (Riehle) Kuhn; daughter, Cindy Harris; brothers: James Kuhn, Art Kuhn, Robert Kuhn and Gerald Kuhn; brother-in-law, Joe Barloon and sister- in- law, Mary Ann Kuhn.

Memorial Mass will be offered at 11 a.m. with visitation from 10 a.m. until Mass  at St. Francis de Sales catholic Church in Ossian.

Inurnment will follow at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Cemetery in Ossian.

Schmitz-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Ossian, Iowa is assisting the family with services.
