Turkey Volleyball played a shortened week with a single road game over to North Fayette Valley.

The night started with an easy win for the Trojans before NFV rallied for its only win of the evening during the latter’s senior night.

Turkey Valley Faces Rockford, AGWSR

The Trojans notched a first win of the season and then faced tough competition from AGWSR to bring the team through its second and third weeks of play.

Against Rockford, TV went 42-33.

“We played well,” said Mark Scott, coach. “Rockford was a playoff team last year with several starters back.”

Rockford managed to give the Trojans a run for the money.

Turkey Valley Hosts Triangular Volleyball Action

Home action was in store for the Trojans Sept. 1.

“Tonight we opened our season against MFL and New Hampton,” said Ethan Adams, coach. “There were a lot of strange variables in this pre-season compared to other years, including having senior night the first night to make sure we are able to have it. We were able to send off [eight] great seniors and let them begin their season being recognized for what they continue to give to our program. I'm proud of the focus we had to come out and put a good foot forward.”

Warriors Win Season Starter Trouncing TigerHawks

Friday night lights returned to Calmar with an opening game against a tough North Fayette Valley rival in non-district action.

Of the three fall sports programs, football managed to get in the first home action of the season with the TigerHawks travelling up Highway 150 to give the Warriors some hard-fought competition.

The scoreboard stayed at zero until just over a minute left in the first quarter before NFV managed a field goal to take the lead 3-0.

Turkey Valley Could See UIC Heights Once More

Turkey Valley volleyball will have some adjustment with a number of seniors graduating.

Ethan Adams will return to coach the Trojans, aided by Kelsey Van Sickle and Cally Mueller.

“Any time you graduate four of your starters, there is reason for concern,” said Adams. “I hope all the girls understand that those positions don’t get filled by attrition, they are still out there to be earned.”

South Winneshiek Will Seek District Domination

Once again, Warrior football could be a force with which to reckon.

Jason Ohrt will coach the Warriors again, assisted by Loren Straube, Mike Wenthold and Jacob Elsbernd.

Key losses include Noah Tieskoetter, a 2019 all-state honoree, and Jaron Todd, district defensive MVP last year.

The week got off to a start as, in what has become a recurring theme for Warrior baseball during tournament, the rain started just over an hour before the game.

Nonetheless, the rain stopped in time for South Winneshiek to take the field against St. Ansgar in a rematch of the Warriors’ only loss this season.

Warriors Win District Final!

The Warriors are taking on St. Ansgar in the last round before state as South Winneshiek continues its advance.

The game is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Cresco against the 15-3 St. Ansgar.

The Warriors are 24-1 after a latest win Saturday.

Getting things started for the week, Mother Nature had it in for the second round of tournament for South Winneshiek.

That did not stop the Warriors from taking the eventual win.

The Warriors were set to play Tuesday at 7 p.m. at home in the second round of tournament after a win at home at the quarterfinal level with South Winneshiek’s prospects for post-season glory looking quite rosy at 22-1 for a record.

The victory clinched a successful week for the team with the Warriors now going up against Edgewood-Colesburg.

After clinching the Upper Iowa Conference title, South Winneshiek started the week by finally encountering one loss for the season as the team went 8-4 against Saint Ansgar.
