Lorraine Wangsness, 96, of Calmar, died Aug. 18 at Barthell Eastern Star in Decorah.

Funeral services were set for 11 a.m. Aug. 26, at the Calmar Lutheran Church with burial in the church cemetery and visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Aug. 25 and after 10 a.m. at the church.

Betsy L. Sanftner passed away in Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania, following a lengthy illness, Aug. 17, 2022, at the age of 80.
Betsy was born in 1942 in Decorah, the daughter of the late Donald and Arlene Meyer. She grew up in Calmer and graduated with a degree in music from the University of Iowa, Class of 1964.

Corey Buchheit, 59, of St. Lucas, died Aug. 9, 2022, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.

Mass of Christian Burial was set for 10:30 a.m. Aug. 19, at St. Luke Catholic Church, 215 East Main St., in St. Lucas, with burial in the St. Luke Cemetery with military rites and visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Aug. 18 at the church and after 9:30 a.m. Friday.

Donald John Wenthold

Donald John Wenthold, 81, of Decorah, passed away Aug. 6, 2022 at Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah. Donald was born to Margaret Hackman Wenthold and Felix William Wenthold Dec. 27, 1940 in Smith Memorial Hospital in Decorah. Donny attended school at St. Francis de Sales in Ossian. Donald grew up on the family farm in Winneshiek County and actively farmed the homestead until his retirement.

John Meyer, 94, of Calmar, passed away Aug. 2 at Aase Haugen Senior Services in Decorah.

A memorial Mass was set for 11 a.m. Aug. 13 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Calmar with burial the church cemetery and visitation from 9:30 a.m. until Mass.

Alvera Linda (Tillman) Kleve, 86, of West Union and formerly of Postville) died July 18, 2022 at Gundersen-Palmer Lutheran Hospital in West Union of pneumonia. Alvera was born Jan. 18, 1936 to Edward and Catherine (Kipp) Tillman in Lawler. Alvera graduated from Waucoma High School in 1953.

Donna Lee Murray, 69, of Sumner, died July 18 at UnityPoint Health - Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo.

A Memorial Mass was set for 11 a.m. July 22 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Lawler and inurnment at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Cemetery in Lawler with visitation from 9:30 to 11 a.m. prior to Mass Friday.

Richard Paul Eppens

Richard Paul Eppens, 86, of Calmar passed away June 29, 2022, at Wellington Place in Decorah due to complications from a fall.

Richard was born Jan. 30, 1936, to Robert Paul Eppens and Florence (Lawrence) Eppens in Calmar. He graduated from Calmar High School in 1954. Following high school, he worked at the IGA grocery store in Calmar and in 1965 began work at the Calmar Manufacturing Company. Richard was a master craftsman in the drawer department and took great pride in his work. He retired from that position in 1999, after 34 years with the company.
